Lloyd Marbet, Oregon environmental and political activist, will give his PowerPoint presentation on global warming, nuclear power, and alternatives to both at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at the PUD meeting room, 2129 North Coast Highway in Newport. Marbet is dedicated to stopping the adverse impacts of the nuclear fuel cycle and catastrophic climate change induced by accumulating greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Justice for Palestinians

Coastal Progressives announce an informal presentation and discussion of Justice for Palestinians by Nuha Masri and Jessica Campbell, two young women who have been active in support of Palestinian independence, on Thursday, March 24, 7:15 p.m., at the Rogue Brewery, 2320 OSU Drive, Newport, Oregon.

Masri, a Palestinian born in Jerusalem, moved to the U.S. at age 10. A UC Berkeley senior in sociology, Nuha serves on the City of Berkeley's Peace and Justice Commission and is a core organizer for Students for Justice in Palestine.

RNN: Why Do Mexican Workers Head North?

 UPDATE [ Dec 20, 2010]:  RNN added the second progam in this series today.

Despite the eerie resemblance to the old conundrum, why did the chicken cross the road, this is not a joke.  It is a reasonably full but succinct discussion of the fallout (blow back?) from our neoliberal trade policies, with particular focus on its impact on the Mexico and the consequent increase in undocumented immigration from Mexico and points South into the US.

There's probably not much here you don't already know, but this is a useful resource to point at in trying to explain things to other people.

Eyewitness!

Lincoln County Democracy for America and Coastal Progressives are hosting a visit from Ken O’Keefe, an eyewitness to the Gaza Flotilla massacre on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara. O’Keefe is a former U.S. Marine, a Gulf War veteran and a Free Gaza activist who disarmed an Israeli commando during their May 31 attack on the international Free Gaza flotilla as it was attempting to break the Israeli blockade and bring humanitarian supplies to Gaza.
